What is this "Art" anyway?
So i’ve been thinking about some of the sketches and models i’ve already done.
It’s obviously not the best, but hey, it conveys the idea right?
The sketch I drew on the left is one of the few things I’ve drawn by hand that I don’t hate out right. Hand drawing just isn’t my strong suit. That said, at least it shows some potential. It doesn’t even look too bad when converted to a vector drawing, which is on the right.
Awful hand drawn pieces aside, I prefer working with vectors because vectors are a superior file format. Seriously though, Vector graphics are pretty cool, and their infinite resolution is nothing to scoff at.
I was introduced to them last year in Illustrator but if you think I’d ever touch Adobe Illustrator again, you’d be mistaken. The Adobe suite is, in my opinion, awful. Affinity by serif provides a far better alternative, and it’s a lot more affordable too.
I think i’ve become relatively competent at working with vectors in Affinity Designer, but there’s always room to improve.
Above is one of my favorite pieces. I exported an orthographic rendering of the 3D model of the drone shown and took it into Designer, then went over it with vectors.
Speaking of 3D modeling, that’s probably my strongest suite at this point, and the thing i’ve spent most time doing. I’ve modeled a number of things, from Starships to Weapons and a few other items. Mostly starships honestly. That said, I’ve made a few weapons in Blender, which is the program I use. I’ve even recorded the whole process for a few.
Above are four 3D models i’ve made, a pair of guns for Starships and Laserguns, a fantasy sword and a rough model airship.
